When the dead lizard sinks to the bottom of the swamp, it starts to be covered in sediments brought in by inlet rivers. The sediments accumulate completely cover the lizard in thick layer. Over time, the lizard carcass undergoes petrification (pores in the carcass become permeated and replaced by minerals) hence preserved.
