Well, to get the area of the chess board, you have to multiply 16 x 4 = 64

To get the area of the small squares you must count them and divide by 64. There are 64 so you divide 64 by 64 to get 1.

Hope this helps!!

The area of the chessboard is 16in times 16in, which is 256 square inches. The smaller squares area equals 4 square inches, as each side is 2 inches and 2 times 2 is four.
