To get this answer, you need to divide 6.5 by 5. 6.5/5=1.3 since the measure is in feet, each section is 1.3 feet long.

You have to use division in this case. 6.5 / 5 = 1.2. Each piece of wood is 1.2 feet long. Drawing a graph is also a helpful way to solve this kind of problem too... but I recommend division since it is faster and quicker.
