Yes, the order does matter. Real numbers include rational numbers, and whole numbers or integers are rational numbers. When dividing whole numbers, the order does matter.

When dividing three real numbers the order can effect the answer.

Example:

8:4:2

1. 8:4:2=(8:4):2=2:2=1;

2. 8:4:2=8:(4:2)=8:2=4.

As you can see the results are different.

Answer: It is not true.
