Hello there i hope you are having a good day :) Your question: what happens to an atom when it absorbs energy? So firstly a atom move into a higher energy that is out of orbit the energy is stored until later on when it released causing the electrons to run out of energy and return to a lower part of energy and this happens an again and again.

Hopefully this helps you ❤
