How can people ensure that social media benefits their lives, and doesn’t harm it?

Social media can do a lot of things to you and affect your mood, but it also benefit your lives because what if you are far away from your friends, how will you talk to them, of course the answer is Social Media, also it can help kids do their homework and like tutor online or quiz online.
