Answer: y = 4, x = -3. You have to multiply one of the equations to get a common multiple for x, so multiply the second equation by 2 to get both of the x’s as 2x. Then, you will subtract the two equations and solve for y. You should get -1y = -4, and solving for y will give you y = 4. Plug in y to get x, and you should get x = -3. So the answer is y = 4, and x = -3.
