Discuss intentionalism and functionalism. What do you think?

intentionalism is a theory that literary work should be judged in terms of the authors intentions. on the other hand, functionalism is the theory that a work should be judged solely by its function, instead of its aesthetic consideration. i think literary works should be judged both ways because they both judge specific aspects of literary works.
