I think thats true. Though many people used it, it was a very safe environment. (I'm sorry if I get it wrong!)

Answer: It depends in some ways it was very safe because they mostly traveld in groups but at the same time it was very dangerous because of bandits ect. so i would pick which one seems more reasonable to you (sorry if i didnt help)
