Trait theories: Are our traits in our genes? And how?

In some theories and systems, traits are something a person either has or does not have, but in many others traits are dimensions such as extroversion vs. introversion, with each person rating somewhere along this spectrum.

Assuming you're talking about physical traits - Many of our traits usually do come from our genes, but either or - it's up to us.
For example: If your mom has freckles, you still have a chance of getting them whether recessive or dominant.
