f(x) is basically the output or y

so f(x)=-x+12 is like y=-x+12
(x,y) is an ordered pair

so when x=2 y=f(2), evaluate to find it
f(2)=-2+12
f(2)=10
y=10

so when x=2, y=10
so
(2,10) is the orderd pair
