Here are some observational differences between type I and type II supernovae:
1. when it comes to type I supernova, it has a light curve that resembles that of a nova. Also, it lacks hydrogen (it is hydrogen-poor) unlike the second type.
2. when it comes to type II supernova, it has a light curve with a plateau, and is hydrogen-rich, unlike the first type.
