How did the Spartan government train the boys to be tough?

One way the boys were trained to be tough is by giving them no comfort.

During the time they believed that the country should have a strong military and that a military society created more obedient and loyal citizens.

So when they turned 8 years old, Spartan boys were taken from their mothers to go to training. They would learn many things like how to fight, the importance of stealth and pride for their country.
