Explain the difference between exponential growth and exponential decay

Exponential growth is the function
[tex]y = a^{x} , a\ \textgreater \ 1[/tex]
Exponential decay is the function
[tex]y = a^{x} , 0\ \textless \ a\ \textless \ 1[/tex]
So, the basic difference is that in growth the base is more than 1, and in decay the base is more than 0 but less than 1.
