5/10+1/10=6/10, they are equivalent since the denominator is the same :)

.5 half of a whole so it is 1/2 .10 is 1/10 you want the same number on the bottom part of the fraction (denominator) so covert 1/2 to 5/10 and now you have 5/10 + 1/10 and that is 6/10.
