The sport became so popular as the population rose, that is as we had the baby boomer generation come into existence. The baby boomers, of course refers to the children of the generation and the soldiers that served in the World War II. As the baby boomer grew so did their interest in sports, and the sport became so popular as to be a metaphor for life.
