Adverb is the word that modifies the verb. Mal is one in the first sentence. Peor is in the second.

The irregular adverbs in Spanish mal (bad)  forms its comparative with peor ( worse). So the sentences are graded. First, the speaker said:

You feel bad.

Today worse than yesterday.
