The number of linear factors of a graph equal the roots of that graph. Roots occur where the graph crosses the x-axis. Roots are also known as zeros and x-intercepts. From the above figure we can see that the graph is not crossing the a-axis at any point. This means the graph has no x-intercept and thus no root. So the graph has no linear factor.
